Canada Senate Approves Gay Marriage Bill
TORONTO (AP) -- Canada's Senate late Tuesday voted to adopt landmark legislation to legalize gay marriage nationwide despite fierce opposition from Conservatives and religious leaders. The bill could be signed into law as early as Wednesday.

Gay marriage has been legal in Canada since the courts struck down existing marriage legislation as being unconstitutional. The Bill that has passed through the House, and now the Senate, simply confirms this reality, and makes the offending legislation consistent with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
