Accident on Rte. 284 kills one, injures two
A head-on crash yesterday on Route 284 in Minisink left one person dead and two injured. Police say 59-year-old Paula Houck, of Sussex, N.J., drove her Toyota across the center line of Route 284 at 11:40 a.m., crashing into a car driven by 20-year-old Ian Kenney.
Kenney and his passenger, Alice Lain, 67, were taken to the Horton campus of Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, where Lain was later pronounced dead. Houck was flown by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla for treatment of serious head injuries. Houck and Kenney were both being treated late last night. State police said the crash was still under investigation. Fire departments from Slate Hill and Johnson assisted police at the scene.
