3 Out of 4 Terrorists Agree...

ik - From Paul Wells, today...

Let me help! Here, catch this anvil!

Finally, a hearty endorsement of the Michaëlle Jean nomination. Louise Lanctôt writes in Le Devoir that by sending Jean to Ottawa, Quebec is showing one of its best faces to the world.
Small problem: Louise Lanctôt was part of the FLQ gang that kidnapped Pierre Laporte and James Cross during the unpleasantness of 1970. Laporte was murdered. Pierre Trudeau exiled Lanctôt to Cuba for several years.

Now she thinks people are being as mean to Michaëlle Jean as they were to Lanctôt herself when she returned from exile. In another perhaps less-than-entirely-helpful comparison, she says Michaëlle Jean may yet turn out to be as impressive a representative for Quebec in Ottawa as... the Bloc Québécois caucus. Remember people didn't want them in Ottawa either?

Remember how well that turned out? See?!

    Lanctôt's endorsement concludes:

"I remain a convinced sovereignist, proud to be Québécoise, believing in a free Quebec, and in this sense I can only applaud the choice of Mme. Jean to represent my allegiances. I congratulate you, Mme. Jean."

But remember: If you let yourself find any of this disturbing or weird, you're letting the separatists win.>>
