Jean Resigns Unexpectedly, Goat Becomes New GG

In a surprise move, newly-installed Governor-General Michaelle Jean resigned from office only one day after being sworn-in. Offering no reason for her change of heart, Jean cooperated fully with officials in Buckingham Palace and Rideau Hall to ensure a quick transition to a new Governor-General.

Above, Jean and her daughter Marie-Eden are seen officially handing over power to Baptiste the Goat, who becomes Canada's 28th Governer General, and the first to speak neither English nor French. Until today's move, Baptiste had been touted as a possible Liberal Party candidate for the riding of Pontiac. A goat has not sat in the House of Commons since the departure of Deborah Grey of the former Canadian Alliance Party in 2003.

During the hastily-prepared ceremony, Baptiste wore a royal blue cape, and a white fur coat. In a prepared statement, Baptiste noted that "the time for the two solitudes is back on."
