Breaking News: Bob Rae to run for Liberal leadership

    From CBC.CA

Bob Rae will run for the leadership of the federal Liberal party, CBC News has learned.

Rae has served as the foreign affairs critic since being elected as an MP for the Toronto Centre riding in a byelection March.

He was Ontario's NDP premier from 1990 to 1995. He ran unsuccessfully for the Liberal leadership in 2006, which Stéphane Dion won. After the Liberals lost 18 seats in the Oct. 14 federal election, Dion announced he would step down as party leader when a new one was chosen.

A leadership convention is likely to happen in Vancouver in May, where the party had planned a biennial policy conference.
