McKenna Will Not Seek the Liberal Leadership

OTTAWA (CP) - Frank McKenna says he won't seek the leadership of the federal Liberal party because he doesn't want to return to the "trap" of politics.

The outgoing ambassador to the United States announced Monday that he was addicted to his job when he served as premier of New Brunswick and doesn't want to return to that life.

"I reminded myself of my vow upon leaving office, that having escaped the trap, I wouldn't go back for the cheese," McKenna said in Washington.

"I wasn't able to find the appropriate balance then, and I'm certain I would not be able to find the appropriate balance now."
